Our System

Goju-Ryu Karate

Goju-Ryu is one of the original Okinawan styles of karate. The name is made up of two words: GO means tough and hard, while JU means soft.

The viewpoint behind the name — and generally behind the art — is that a balance of hardness and softness is necessary for life in general, since in isolation from the other, neither is enough to handle the variations of life.

When defending and blocking, the body must remain relaxed and soft, inhaling and moving in light circular motions. When attacking, the body should be tough and hard, exhaling to provide even more strength.

Goju-Ryu is a highly effective martial art and one of the main original Okinawan karate styles — all known for being centred around efficiency and utility.
